Fake job offers are one of the most common ways young Pakistanis lose money and personal data. A message arrives on WhatsApp: “Salary Rs. 80,000, work from home, just pay a small registration fee.” It looks tempting, especially when you are job hunting. This guide shows 10 signs of a fake job offer, a 5-minute check before you reply and what to do if you have already been scammed.
Please note: We are not a government agency or a law firm. This is general safety advice. Reporting channels can change, so confirm them on the official websites before you file a complaint.
10 Signs of a Fake Job Offer

- They ask for money. A real employer never charges a registration, security, training, uniform or “file” fee. Government jobs never need you to pay an agent.
- You did not apply. A random message that says “you are selected” for a job you never applied to.
- Salary too good to be true for easy work (for example, a huge salary for typing or liking videos).
- Chat only on WhatsApp or Telegram, with no company email or office address.
- A free email address (Gmail, Yahoo) instead of a company domain.
- No interview, or an interview only by text.
- Pressure to act fast (“only today,” “last seat”).
- They ask for sensitive details early: CNIC photo, bank account, OTP or card number before any signed contract.
- Spelling mistakes and a blurry logo in the offer letter.
- A link to a form on an unknown site that asks for a login or a password.
The same tricks appear in “easy online earning” offers. See our guide to online earning scams in Pakistan.
5-Minute Check Before You Reply

- Search the company name plus the word “scam” or “fake” on Google.
- Find the official website yourself (do not use the link in the message) and look for the same job on its careers page.
- Check the email domain. It should match the official website.
- Call the company’s official number from its website, not the number in the offer.
- For a government job, look for the advertisement in a newspaper or on the official department website or portal. Many government jobs are applied for on official portals only. See our guide to finding government jobs.
For LinkedIn recruiters, use our checklist in LinkedIn profile tips for freshers and see the recruiter’s profile age, connections and company page.
What to Share and What Never to Share
| Safe after a real interview and contract | Never share |
|---|---|
| Copy of CNIC (for HR records) | OTP or verification codes |
| Education and experience documents | ATM card number, PIN or CVV |
| Bank account number for salary (after joining) | Passwords, or access to your phone |
Even for a real job, write “For job application only” over a photocopy of your CNIC before you hand it over. Our guide to documents required for government jobs shows which papers a genuine employer asks for.
If You Have Already Been Scammed
- Stop any further payment or reply.
- Save evidence: screenshots of chats, the number, the account you paid, transaction receipts and links.
- Contact your bank or wallet (JazzCash, Easypaisa and so on) immediately and report the transaction.
- File a complaint with the NCCIA (the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency). A legal guide we reviewed gives the online complaint site as nccia.gov.pk. Confirm it on the official site first.
- For scam calls or SIMs, the same guide lists the PTA complaint portal and helpline 0800-55055. Confirm it on the PTA website.
- Do not pay “recovery agents.” Anyone who asks for an upfront fee to get your money back is likely a second scammer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a real company ask for a registration fee?
No. Genuine employers do not charge candidates for applying, training or a job offer.
Is a job offer on WhatsApp always fake?
Not always, but it is a red flag when it is the only channel. Verify the company through its official website and phone number.
Can someone get me a government job for money?
No. Government jobs are given through advertised, merit-based processes. Anyone who sells a job is a fraud.
Where do I report a fake job offer?
Start with the NCCIA online complaint system and your bank or wallet. Check the current channels on the official websites.
